MEASLES
Homeopathy and the Infectious Diseases.
Basic Understanding
Measles, also known as rubeola or seven-day measles, is a highly contagious viral epidemic illness caused by the morbillivirus, which is spread by droplet infection such as coughs or sneezes of an infected person. It enters the body via the orifices of nose, mouth or eyes. It can significantly challenge the immune system, especially in children. For pregnant women, measles can pose serious risks.
Incubation and Peak Contagion
The incubation period is 9-14 days. The patient is most contagious three to four days before the expression of the rash and until the rash begins to fade or a total of about 7-8 days.
Complications
Historically complications are prevalent in malnourished populations and areas lacking infrastructure for basic hygiene, such as plumbing and sewage systems separating fecal matter from drinking water. This obviously suggests that the need for improved living conditions and infrastructure first supersedes the need for increased v*ccination.
Another instigator contributing to complications of this otherwise short lived acute process is external suppression of the immune system at any point. Suppression of the immune system increases susceptibility of the secondary infections such as pneumonia, bronchitis, laryngitis, diarrhea, ear infections or encephalitis.
Encephalitis (brain swelling) is the more serious complication of measles which occurs in less than .01% of all cases. Symptoms of encephalitis may show up as violent behavior, clumsiness, vomiting, seizures, and coma. A late complication, called sub-acute sclerosis panencephalitis (progressive hardening and scarring of the entire brain) can occur in one of 100,000 cases of measles (not treated homeopathically).
Conventional Medicine vs. Homeopathy
While modern medicine emphasizes vaccination, homeopathy offers an individualized treatment that avoids suppression of the symptoms thereby significantly reducing the risks of secondary complications but instead supports the body to move through the stages of the illness toward full resolution, recovery and improved, gained immunity.
Immunity
If living within modern infrastructures with sound housing, plumbing systems, adequate nutrition and a place to rest during illness - a person can process the measles as a natural short-lived acute illness and acquire life-long immunity and enhanced immune function as a result. Historically this is true. (note: the older generation, such as my father at 97 years with no chronic diseases on record. He had all of these classic acute infectious diseases. They were considered normal. This was before the era of p*harmaceutical enterprise, and suppression, which has resulted in less acute disease but increased layers of chronic disease).
In these contemporary times following years of high vaccination rates we might be seeing as a result of these suppressive methods a shift in the expression of once classic acute eruptive exanthematic diseases (measles, rubella, chicken pox) as these diseases morph and change expression (both in symptom picture and demographic age of expression) rather than being ‘eradicated’ as proclaimed.
New expressions of these diseases shift, morph, recombines, re-express and gets renamed in the population as a ’new’ acute disease or more likely turn into a chronic disease based upon the persons individual underlying susceptibility.
Natural acquired immunity can be a healthy, more complete process, than vaccine-generated immunity.
The manifestation of these exanthematic diseases is relatively mild in developed countries where the general nutritional status is high and sanitation is usually not a problem.
Miasm
The homeopathic theory of miasms suggests that when an acute infection (like skin diseases or venereal infections) is suppressed by an external treatment it does not disappear but instead retreats into the body organism as a "deep-seated” miasm or latent force existing within the organism which can remain quiet and develop into various disorders over time (if not treated with specific anti-miasmatic remedies).
Miasms act as a fundamental “taint” on the vital force becoming the future root-cause of chronic disease(s). Miasms can be acquired or inherited epigenetically and if left unresolved passed on to one's offspring as inherited disease tendency.
Measles and rubella are acute miasmatic diseases related to the sycotic miasm. Susceptibility to these diseases is dependent upon an individuals prior miasmatic taint. Once contracted the acute exanthematic disease offers a pathway to clear the underlying miasmatic influence improve and upgrade the overall health and reduce the chronic disease layers.
Historical Use of Homeopathy in Measles
Here is a clear, historically grounded overview of the use of homeopathy in measles, framed accurately and without modern reinterpretation. This stays within documented history and classical/clinical homeopathic practice.
1. Early 19th Century: Hahnemann Era
Measles (rubeola) was a major childhood disease in the 18th–19th centuries, often complicated by pneumonia, encephalitis, and high mortality.
Samuel Hahnemann and his contemporaries treated measles routinely with homeopathy.
Key points from early homeopathy:
Measles was viewed as an acute miasmatic disease, not something to be suppressed
Emphasis was on:
Supporting a full, healthy eruption
Preventing dangerous complications
Avoiding suppressive measures (bleeding, purgatives, mercury)
Hahnemann noted that improper management of measles often led to chronic disease later, especially respiratory and neurological conditions.
2. 19th Century Epidemics: Reported Outcomes
Throughout the 1800s, homeopaths reported markedly lower mortality rates in measles compared to conventional medicine of the time.
Examples frequently cited in historical literature:
Vienna (1830s–1840s):
Homeopathic hospitals reported mortality under 1%
Conventional hospitals often reported 5–10% or higher, depending on conditions
England & Germany:
Homeopathic physicians documented fewer cases of post-measles pneumonia and blindness
Important Context:
These outcomes occurred during an era when conventional treatment included bloodletting, emetics, and toxic metals, which significantly worsened outcomes.
3. Important Measles Remedies in Classical Homeopathy
Homeopathy did not treat measles as a single-remedy disease. Remedies were chosen by stage and symptom picture.
Commonly cited remedies:
Prodrome (fever, catarrh, restlessness)
Aconitum – sudden onset, high fever, anxiety
Belladonna – intense heat, throbbing, light sensitivity
Eruption phase
Pulsatilla – mild, tearful children, thick bland discharge
Bryonia – dry cough, worse motion, wants to be left alone
Incomplete or suppressed eruption
Sulphur – delayed or receding rash, heat, restlessness
Zincum – nervous symptoms, twitching, suppressed rash
Complications
Phosphorus – pneumonia, chest involvement
Hepar sulph – secondary infections, suppuration
.The goal was always to support resolution through each stage of the natural disease, not to abort the disease.
4. Homeopathic Philosophy Around Measles
Historically, homeopaths believed:
Measles was a self-limited disease that could strengthen vitality if properly managed
Suppression (driving the rash inward) was dangerous
Poorly treated measles could leave:
Chronic lung disease
Recurrent infections
Neurological weakness
This belief aligns interestingly with modern recognition of post-measles immune vulnerability, though the language and model were different.
5. Late 19th–Early 20th Century
By the early 1900s:
Improved sanitation and nutrition reduced measles mortality overall
Homeopathy remained widely used for measles in Europe and the U.S.
Homeopathic texts continued to list measles as a standard acute in family practice
Measles management was a core competency of home physicians.
6. Post V*ccination Era
After widespread measles v*ccination (1960s onward)
Measles became rare in industrialized countries
Homeopathic focus shifted to:
Acute support in breakthrough cases
Constitutional care post-illness
Management of complications, sequelae and ultimately treatment of the ensuing era of chronic diseases
Homeopathy did not disappear, but measles ceased to be a routine clinical experience for most practitioners.
Important Clarifications
Homeopathy historically did not claim to prevent measles reliably in epidemics
It claimed to:
Reduce severity
Reduce complications
Improve recovery
Historical reports are observational, not modern randomized controlled trials (RCTs).
Outcomes must be interpreted in historical medical context
Summary
Historically, homeopathy was widely used for measles and was considered effective at reducing severity and complications during a time when conventional treatments were often harmful. Measles was treated as an acute disease that needed careful support, not suppression.
"While the explanatory models differ, modern science now recognizes that measles can leave lasting immune vulnerability — something early homeopaths observed clinically without understanding the immunology.”
Melissa Crenshaw
Homeopathic treatment is the correction to that "immune vulnerability”.
Contextual Information
Homeopathic Perspective - Homeopaths have historically observed that children may experience a lingering, weakened state following acute measles, which they address with skilled homeopathic treatment, to correct that immune vulnerability post acute illness.
Seek professional homeopathic help when:
Rash fails to appear.
Child makes high pitched cries and moans.
Prolonged fever over 103F or fever has been insufficient to bring out the rash.
Rash fails to resolve.
Homeoprophylaxis (HPx), Immune System Education for Infectious Disease
Homeoprophylaxis (HPx) is a form of immune system education based upon a specific branch of classical homeopathy, using sequential dosing methods of the homeopathically attenuated infectious agent to strengthen the immune system and address the underlying miasms (much needed after years of mass immune system suppression via the injection programs).
The homeoprophylaxis (HPx) method provides information to the body as an orally dosed energetic homeopathic inoculation (separate from treatment of the acute disease process). It is the same theory as v*ccination but an entirely different methodology.
Viruses and bacteria are evolving life forms.

End note on Preparedness
As noted in homeopathic literature, infectious diseases (like measles) follow cycles. Homeopathic treatment is effective against measles outbreaks. Being prepared is essential. It’s important to have ready access to homeopathic remedies on-hand (basic acute care kits) and an established relationship with a skilled practitioner. Most of us are able to work remotely so clients can get treatment guidance quickly and easily. Best results occur when clients have an established relationship with a homeopath.
